Cold Brew Brew Guide

Making cold brew coffee is a simple process that results in a smooth, flavorful, and refreshing beverage. Cold brew cuts way back on coffee's natural acidity. Following these steps will help you achieve consistent results. Enjoy your cold brew!

Step-by-Step Guide to Making Cold Brew Coffee

STEP 01

Gather Your Ingredients and Equipment

  • Ingredients: You will need coarsely ground coffee and cold, filtered water.
  • Equipment: You will need a large jar or pitcher, a coffee grinder (if using whole beans), a stirring utensil, a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth, and a secondary container for storage. We recommend using a Toddy coffee maker if you have one available.
STEP 02

Combine Coffee and Water

  • Add some Water: Add 1 cup of cold water to the brewing container.
  • Add Coffee Grounds: Add a whole, 16oz bag of Fidalgo's Organic Centro Cold Brew to the container.
  • Fill 1/2 Container with Water: Fill the container 1/2 way to the top with water.
  • Let Steep: Let this mixture steep for 5 minutes.
STEP 03

Fill and Steep

  • Fill to Top: Fill the pitcher about 1/2" from the top. Do not stir this mixture.
  • Steep: Steep at room temperature for 8 hours.
STEP 04

Strain the Coffee

  • Prepare to Strain: After the steeping time is complete, prepare a secondary container for storage. Place a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth over the container.
  • Strain the Coffee: Slowly pour the coffee mixture through the sieve or cheesecloth to filter out the coffee grounds. You may need to do this in batches if you have a large amount of coffee.
  • Optional Second Strain: For an even smoother cold brew, you can strain the coffee a second time using a clean cheesecloth or a coffee filter.
STEP 05

Store the Cold Brew

  • Transfer to Storage: Transfer the strained cold brew concentrate to a clean jar or pitcher with a lid.
  • Refrigerate: Store the cold brew concentrate in the refrigerator. It can be kept for up to two weeks.
STEP 06

Serve and Enjoy

  • Dilute to Taste: Cold brew concentrate is typically strong, so dilute it with water, milk, or a milk alternative to taste. A common ratio is 1:1 (equal parts cold brew concentrate and water/milk), but you can adjust based on your preference.
  • Serve Over Ice: Pour the diluted cold brew over ice and enjoy. You can also add sweeteners or flavorings as desired.

Additional Tips

  • Coffee Quality: Use freshly roasted and coarsely ground coffee for the best taste.
  • Water Quality: Use filtered water for the best taste.
  • Experiment: Feel free to experiment with different coffee-to-water ratios, steeping times, and flavor additions (such as vanilla, cinnamon, or chocolate) to find your perfect cold brew.
